AT Chat is a peer-led community and service delivering assistive technology information, support, and advice for people with disability and those who support them.
Despite its clear mission, the old web platform had well and truly lost its footing. Stale content, unresolved usability issues and fractured navigation had moved the community to more viable alternative platforms. The AT Chat website had a potential dedicated audience, but nowhere near enough of them actually using it.
We began with a comprehensive audit across accessibility, usability, content and navigation, mapping the platform's challenges to shape a clear and honest set of recommendations, which in turn drove a complete redesign and rebuild of the platform from the ground up.
The brief called for both a visual refresh and a fundamental repositioning, from a hard-to-navigate archive into a dynamic information hub and community contribution portal that could genuinely re-engage its audience and earn back their participation.
The result is a platform rebuilt around the people it serves, accessible by design, intuitive to navigate, and structured to invite contribution rather than discourage it. A space that finally reflects the energy and purpose of the community it exists to support.
